It is named after Saalumarada Thimmakka, an environmental activist who planted a total of 350 trees in her lifetime. The park was inaugurated on July 24, 2017, by the then Forest minister Ramnath Rai, of Karnataka. The park has been developed by the Karnataka Forest Department and the Hulikal gram panchayat.
