Banavasi is the first Kannada Capital which is ruled by the Kadamba dynasty, At present, it is announced as one of the rural tourist places by UNDP. The place is known for the historical Madhukeshwara Temple. The idol is in the color of honey so it is called ‘Madhu’ keshwara. The place is known to the people from 4th A.C. The noted ancient Kannada poet Pampa describes it as a place where the eyes can see the treasure of nature. It is a place that has harmonized all religions. The river Varada flows from south to north. Sirsi, Sorab towns are nearby for a stay. The travelers can visit the place from August to March.
