Mother goddess Durga Temple is situated on the peak of Sadashivgad hill fort in Karwar in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka in India. It had an important historical link with the famous and powerful Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who was one of the greatest Hindu Kings.
He had visited Karwar and Sadashivgad twice, in 1665 and in 1673, in order to strengthen the Sadashivgad fort and also renovated the Goddess Durga temple here. It is said that he gave the rights of worship in this temple to the local Bhandari family head at that time. The fort was built on the north bank of River Kali at the confluence of the river with the Arabian Sea. Now, it is a popular tourist attraction decorated with the famous Kali river bridge.
